A Timid Grey And A Lonely Green

There are four psychological primary colors - red, blue, yellow and green. It is said that they relate respectively to the body, the mind, the emotions and the essential balance between these three.

By mixing the primary colors eleven other basic colors can be derived. But for an artist's eye there are hundreds more. Call them shades. Their psychological properties are powerful.

Green strikes the eye in such a way as to require no adjustment whatever and is, therefore, restful. Being in the centre of the spectrum, it is the colour of balance - a more important concept than many people realise.
When the world around us contains plenty of green, this indicates the presence of water, and little danger of famine, so we are reassured by green, on a primitive level.
Negatively, it can indicate stagnation and, incorrectly used, will be perceived as being too bland.

Pure grey is the only colour that has no direct psychological properties. It is, however, quite suppressive. A virtual absence of colour is depressing and when the world turns grey we are instinctively conditioned to draw in and prepare for hibernation. Unless the precise tone is right, grey has a dampening effect on other colours used with it. Heavy use of grey usually indicates a lack of confidence and fear of exposure.

You can not escape the Colors of Life.

A STORY OF LAST SUMMER

This is a simple story

of last summer.

A simple story of one afternoon

of beauty and happiness.

on the mountains

high on top

that the wind could tell as well

in his own words

and by the river

 under big trees

all so green

A simple story of last summer

but not too long

for two people who were there.

THE SALT OF THE SEA

It is the time of the year to spent as much time as possible by the sea. The days are warm and the water temperature has risen. Long walks at the beach and nights outside.

But the locals say the sea-salt in the wind kills everything.

And when you look closer it seems true.

A misty beach where you can firmly see the salt in the air.

The sea air gives rust and decay.

But also dries and heals.

TABLE MOUNTAIN IN A GOOD MOOD

I am feeling lucky today to show you Table Mountain in a very good mood and in splendid colors.

It's not really often that you see theses colors.

One of the Container ships just leaving the bay.

And the most amazing table cloth of clouds preparing itself to cover Table Mountain.

Two kite surfers in the bay. The Wind was blowing like hell. Just perfect.

SPEED......................and the blue sea.

The colors in the bay can change within minutes. This photo was taken very early that morning. Later the sky became a deep blue.

And I do think that Cape Town is one of the nicest cities in the world to live.

Late afternoon......

SEA SIDE WINDOWS

SEA SIDE WINDOWS BEAUTIFUL AS PAINTINGS

On my last visit to a tiny fishing village at the coast I have seen these beautiful weathered, rusted, chipped, shattered, glass-broken, forgotten, unattended, old windows.

Their eyes have seen plenty of sun, wind, sand, waves, happiness, Christmas and Easter celebrations, joy, misery, fighting, love making, reconciliations, poverty and tenderness over the years.

At least that's how I imagine it. They have seen plenty inside and outside.

Made by hand decades ago and  handed over to the sea salt like a sacrifice they have sheltered eyes from the sun and wind, from cold and heat.

Piece and serenity in the desert

This story is for my father who truly loves churches and has shown me so many over the years. Nieu Bethesda has many surprises and one of them is this old church.
And I know he would have loved to be there. When I visited Nieu Bethesda two years ago with my father the church was closed.

Standing proud and tall..... as we all should.

This time we were so lucky that the new guardian of the church is our friend. The key is approximately half a meter long.
And Doooog is really suffering at the moment......... he has been on his feet since early morning and was following us all day long through the village

The inside is serene and surprisingly spacious.

I think church windows have inspired artists and painters all over the world through all the centuries. This one has given me as a gift a new inspiration.

Add Image

For the last trip. I think it has a lot of style actually. Not too shabby. I imagine four white horses...just for the contrast.

A place of beauty

Old cast iron chandeliers.

And a lot of other beautiful details.

like this old organ.

The look through the back door to the outside. Blazing sunlight and the impression this is a lost place.

The settlements on the other side of the village.

But opulence inside.
