What Do You Do For A Living ?

Or What Do You Have To Do To Live ?

There are millions of people in South Africa. women and men, who have made it their living to dig through other people's trash and waste that is deposited in black bags outside on the street for collection.

It is the same scenario on each and every day in South Africa. In every city and in each suburb, affluent or poor, depending on the week day when the trash is collected.

As early as five or six o'clock in the morning, before the trucks come, people start searching the trash for plastic bottles and material that can be recycled and for things that can be kept for private use. The list of things that can be re-used for private comsumption is long ranging from old garden chairs, left over food and half smoked cigarettes to card board boxes. Nothing is excluded.

South Africa is just beginning to make a small step into the direction of an " organized waste separation and waste managemnt system ". Private Recycling companies buy the empty bottles and plastic trash that are collected by the people who search the waste.

The money derived from this activity is often their only income.

The gap in South-Africa between the rich and the poor has become deeper during the last decade.

And this is a way not to steel or starve.

What many South Africans have to do to live.

Number Seventeen

I can still feel your elegance

I can almost see the beauty of your youth

I can sense your old school class

Number 17 you are beautiful !

I would never lie
I stood  20 minutes right in front of you.

And I had the strange feeling that it was hard to say Good Bye

I was asked by a friend the other day: Why are you so mad about the old houses in this town?
The old colonial house are of an incredible architectural elegance. I am not limited to the colonial architecture in my preferences. There are many styles that I like especially the architecture of modern mid century. But the houses in the older suburbs of East London radiate a class that is hard to imitate even if they are in a condition of total decay and degradation. Like old human beings you can still see they aura clearly.

On Dangerous Ground

The pier in Port Alfred on a windy, grey and cloudy afternoon

looks like the perfect scenario for a Hitchcock film

there are plenty of ideal spots for murder and abuse scenes

and other dark, creepy activities

The fantasy gets stimulated from every angle

and every viewpoint

after this afternoon

I am determined to write a script around the Port Alfred pier,
all that's left is to find a donor for a nice Indie Film
Interested ?

some do already have the movie star walk,,,,,

Summer Decided To Stay

It is supposed to be winter in the Eastern Cape in South-Africa and temperatures should not be higher than 20 to 22 degrees Celsius during the day. But summer has decided to stay.
This picture was taken yesterday morning at Blue Bend Beach.
Even the Jack Russell needed shade.

Pictures Of Freedom

Yesterday was Freedom day.
16 years ago on the 27.th of April South-Africa became a free and democratic country. Today The sky had dressed up for that special occasion in a gown of white and azure blue ruffles.
Often, when the sky get dramatic like this, I feel extremely seduced by it and I have to leave the house and drive around to look at the play of ligh above me.
So I got into my old VW-Beetle with my camera to take some shots of freedom.

For many it was black and white with a few shades of grey at the side 16 years ago.

Today we got all the color this beautiful country deserves.

With the colors, roaming free, comes the right and delight to enjoy freedom in many different ways.
The way YOU like it.

Everybody enjoys freedom in a different way. High in the sky..

or very grounded.

Freedom is sometimes best enjoyed in good company.

to be able to share and enjoy beautiful things and moments together.

or to do what you absolutely love doing the most. That's freedom

with no restrictions and boundaries

And when the freedom gets a little bit too much from time to time you have someone you can always return too. THAT'S A PERFECT FREEDOM
I simply like how free the wind is and just lifts that little pink skirt.

Or when you are in love. It feels like freedom but sometimes is not.

But when you want to be in love it makes you free as well.
